Thursday, Sept. 28

7:03am. Prince George, BC. The Toyota dealership in Abbotsford forgot to reset the Oil Change light after they serviced my truck. Arg. Today I go past 4000 miles on the trip. Ended up choosing Cassiar Highway, the more scenic route. Bears here I come.

bc_picnic_area
BC rest area. More like Picnic Site Of The Year. I hope people living here are aware of the beauty that surrounds them. I mean, it's ridiculous!

vast_bc
More BC.

bc_town
This was another beautiful, quaint BC town. Everything looked Swiss. Behind those mountains there's a ski resort.

lucky_house
Some people have it all. Like the owner of this house.

curvy_road
More BC.

park2
Not as lush a rest area as the previous one, but still engaging.

highway_begins_here
The Cassiar Highway begins here.

bear
4:38pm. My first bear sighting! A small (300lb) one, strolling on the right shoulder.

5:44pm. First wooden bridge.

6:29pm. Saw a large black wolf standing under a tree in the rain. He was big. Very big.

6:35pm. Second wooden bridge.

austrian_hostel
8:10pm. Bell II lodge for supper. Met Elena, a cute, black hair, nosering German waitress. She's visited Barcelona 4 times this past year, but thinks Catalans are strange people. I guess she's right.

choppers
The lodge specializes in heli-skiing. A helicopter takes you to the top of a mountain, drops you off, and you ski down pristine powder to a rendezvous point. And you do it all again. Well, at least until sundown. Very cool, and very expensive: $600-$900 for one day.

11:22pm. Iskut - Red Goat Lodge. Truck-camping again, as per usual. This time I chose a creepy campground next to a huge lake. The waves are 15 ft from my Tacoma and the wind is howling bitterly. Quite chilly, too. Population of Iskut: 283.

Oh man. The wind is rocking my truck like a crib.

once again, amazing photos. you should contact someone important and see if you can make one of those books that they sell in barnes and noble with pictures of beautiful places.

thanks ross! i don't credit myself at all. it's just the scenery, you know? anyone with a camera could have done the same. but i saw so much beauty on my way up here, i could have filled an entire book if i really knew how to take pictures.

nice photos.
i was first going to say that it's too bad you didn't get to drive through BC during the summer when everything is green. but then i saw how the trees do that amazing thing where each line of trees has a different colour, like in the last photo--that's pretty breath-taking.

Gabriel, I find it unacceptable that with such an exciting life and exciting city you live in, that you do not update your blog on a daily basis. It is of extreme importance to your academic progress. Please come see me at my office immediately and explain your absence of postage.
